The Help

I went to see The Help with my mom and her friend Cari. We had all read the book and loved it, and we were dying to see the movie. It did not disappoint. In fact, I liked it much better than the book. The characters in the movie were just so much better and had so much more personality. For instance, I absolutely LOVED Hilly's mom in the movie, and she didn't even stand out at all in the book. I also loved Celia Foote. It was such a great movie. I will definitely be buying the DVD.

Pinterest

My newest obsession in this world is Pinterest. For those of you who don't know what this is I will give a summary. Pinterest is website that is basically an online bulletin board. If you're ever browsing around your favorite websites and you see something that you like you can virtually "pin" it to your bulletin board. It also has a social networking aspect to it. You can follow your friends boards and get great ideas from the things that they pin. The other day at work I was searching around Pinterest (oops), and I searched "burnt orange." I found the most fabulous Longhorn game day shirt ever. I instantly bought it, and it delivered today.

I highly suggest joining the website. It's so much fun looking at all of the cool things. It's also a great tool for shopping. It makes it so much easier to find what you're looking for. Happy pinning!

One Day

I just finished reading One Day by David Nicholls.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It begins with a guy and girl who share a night together right after college graduation on July 15, 1988. Each new chapter outlines what is happening in each of their lives every year following on the same day, July 15, for the next 29 years of their lives. I started out LOVING this book. It was so heartbreakingly beautiful. I was anticipating this great love story...how these two people were perfect for each other, but the timing was just all wrong and something kept pulling them apart. As I got further into the book I kept waiting for that "grand gesture" moment when everything falls into place and everyone lives happily ever after; however, good ol' David Nicholls chose to take more of a Nicholas Sparks turn in the plot. This book didn't end as I would have liked/expected; however, I still enjoyed it very much. I would suggest reading it, especially if you plan on seeing the movie when it comes out later this month. I don't necessarily love Anne Hathaway, but I still would like to see this movie. I guess in that regard I would consider this book a success. Read it.

My Growing Reading List

My reading list is growing by the minute. I got a recommendation from my mom to read...

This is a true story by the author of Seabiscuit. My mom told me to prepare myself before I read this because it is very intense.

I also received a recommendation to read...

I met a very nice woman while I was getting a pedicure at my usual nail salon. We became instant BFFs. She ensured me that this is the perfect summer read: free of boy drama and lots of good girly stuff.

I will provide reviews on both after I finish to let you know if they lived up to their reputations.

Possum Kingdom

Words of wisdom. If you ever have the opportunity to jump off a 75 foot cliff such as the one in the background in this picture...don't.

BECAUSE this can happen to you.
